About
Thrawn follows Scottish filmmaker Ashley Catherine Dick as she sets out to uncover what influenced her to suppress her accent and use of Scots language. She explores how Scottish identity itself is shaped and reflected through the Scots we see on screen.
When Ash was wee, she was told Scots words were "slang", and weans were disciplined at School for using it. In 2025 Scots was given official language status by the Scottish Government, marking a huge shift in engagement and respect for Scottish culture.

Thrawn observes this shift, through interviews with Scottish people and personalities. It looks to redefine Scottishness for future generations. It’s an honest, uplifting, and humorous look at who we are, and the resilience of a language once told to wheesht.
