After years of being told she doesn’t sound like where she comes from, Scottish filmmaker Ashley Catherine Dick explores the cultural and societal movements that made her lose her broad accent and use of Scots language over the course of her life, what this means for Scottish Identity and why this phenomenon is relatable to so many other Scots. Studying archive of her own life, and interviewing other thrawn Scots, Ashley seeks to unpack the history of Scots language suppression, the implications of accent and class, and her personal journey with identity.
