When a drinking game at an uncomfortable party takes a dangerous turn, a young woman must stand up to a powerful guest who refuses to accept the rules.

If Looks Could Kill was shot in Amantea, Italy on the Kino Guraimba Film Residency. The story is based on the ancient Greek myth of Medusa, which reveals itself as the film unfolds.

Writer, Director and Producer Ashley Dick wanted to update this myth for the modern audience.

"If Looks Could Kill reimagines the myth of Medusa as a dark comedy about power, consent and the dangers of turning women into objects of desire.

We all know the story of Medusa the monster, who can turn men to stone with one look. But when I learned that she started life as a human I started to explore what the message of this ancient story was. It turns out that there are various versions of events, and ultimately Medusa is punished for Poseidon's actions in the house of Athena. In some versions Poseidon violates Medusa, in some versions Medusa is complicit. But in all versions only Medusa is punished. I realised it didn't matter whether Medusa deserved punishment or not, and that the lack of care for the woman's life is still reflected in parts of modern life. Expecially in the circles where men feel an entitlement and control of women's bodies. I instilled the manosphere into Poseidon, and gave Medusa the chance to push back."
