In a dingy Berlin hostel bathroom, stark naked, a woman accidentally cuts her finger on a cheap razor. She succumbs to her worst emotions, feeling shame and frustration for being in that hostel in the first place, running from life. The film frames a present, melodramatic moment that can feel overwhelming and catastrophic, but in retrospect, can be transformational and healing.
Hiatus began as another film, 'The Cut', which only portrayed the woman within the present, and focussed on the feelings of overwhelm, with a darker tone. 3 years later, the film was re-worked to reflect a new perspective, with new voice over, music and animations.
